Lacrosse moves fast, and it can be a physical game. And while youth rules significantly limit stick and body checking, it's important that all players wear all required equipment to keep themselves safe.
REQUIRED Boys' Lacrosse Equipment:
- Lacrosse stick. I.e., "the crosse." Must meet rule specifications for the age group.
- Lacrosse helmet. Must be meet NOCSAE standard and be SEI certified.
- Shoulder pads. As of January 1, 2022, must meet the NOCSAE ND200 standard.
- Arm or elbow pads.
- Lacrosse gloves. (Hockey gloves won't work.)
- Mouth guard. Cannot be clear or white; Invisalign doesn't count. Refs will check!
- Protective athletic cup. Get used to it, boys. Wear it every practice, every game.
- Appropriate footwear. Non=metal cleats for grass and turf; sturdy sneakers or turf shoes for other surfaces as appropriate.
Optional Boys' Lacrosse Equipment:
REQUIRED GOALIE EQUIPMENT
- Helmet. Must meet NOCSAE standard and be SEI certified.
- Throat guard. (For MLA goalies, Tonka will provide.)
- Chest protector. As of January 1, 2021, must meet the NOCSAE ND200 standard. (For MLA goalies, Tonka will provide.)
- Protective athletic cup. NEVER STEP INTO THE CAGE WITHOUT ONE!
- Lacrosse GOALIE gloves. Goalie gloves have reinforced thumbs to prevent broken digits.
- Appropriate footwear. Non=metal cleats for grass and turf; sturdy sneakers or turf shoes for other surfaces as appropriate.
- Goalie stick. The goalie's crosse has different permitted dimensions than the field players. Check applicable rules.
- Mouthguard. Again, it can't be clear or white, and no Invisalign.
