The Minnetonka Lacrosse Association (MLA) in-house program for 8U players bridges the gap between the 6U introduction to lacrosse skills and field lacrosse league play, which begins at the 10U age segment.
Players will participate in clinic-style drills, small-sided in-house competition, and, where appropriate, scrimmages, jamborees, and potentially even tournaments with other associations' 8U teams.
A word about equipment:
For all in-house activities and all scrimmages, MLA permits players to wear hockey helmets and other protective hockey equipment if necessary, meaning that families do not need to rush out to buy a youth lacrosse helmet or other protective equipment. We do this to lower families' costs associated with trying lacrosse.
We do recommend that players buy their own complete stick, but MLA can provide loaner lacrosse sticks where necessary.
Note that for tournaments, players may be required to wear full lacrosse-specific protective equipment and may be required to purchase or borrow a "legal" lacrosse stick if the stick they have been using for in-house activities does not meet specified requirements.
Call for Coaches: We're always looking for new coaches! If you or someone you know would enjoy coaching or helping a coach during practices, please contact the Boys' Youth Director. MLA will pay for your US Lacrosse Level 1 certification.
Call for Volunteers: In addition to coaches, we always need volunteers in a number of capacities to keep Minnetonka youth lacrosse going. If you're interested, check out our Volunteer Opportunities webpage.
All participants must have a current US Lacrosse (USL) Youth Membership ($30).
To complete registration for this program, you must input your child's USL membership number and membership expiration date.
We recommend that you confirm your child's USL membership status prior to beginning the registration process.
